The government says that the planned rationalisation of diesel subsidies is currently on hold, but will be announced when the time is right. According to economy minister Rafizi Ramli, the reason why the government is keeping its cards close to its chest is to avoid speculative inflation from happening as much as it can, as The Star reports.
He said that while data from the Pangkalan Data Utama (PADU) socio-economic database is ready, the timeline for rationalisation hasn’t yet been indicated because there were concerns that certain groups would take advantage of the situation by raising prices for profit should disclosure come about too early.
He said one of the main considerations was the need for proper sequencing to be done in implementing the diesel subsidy rationalisation to ensure there is a balance between wage growth, increasing public income and inflation, and this would take time.
Nevertheless, he said that rationalisation will eventually come about once the government is ready and an appropriate mechanism has been decided on. “(It will happen) because a lot of work, discussion and coordination has been done,” he said.
The government has previously outlined plans to introduce a targeted subsidy mechanism for both diesel and RON 95 petrol, with that for the latter slated to be sometime in the second half of 2024. However, it has yet to announce the mechanism and how these subsidies will be dispensed.

It looks like private diesel vehicle owners will be left in the cold, so far it’s always commercial and fleet owners including a list of categories of vehicles eligible for subsidies, and nothing mentioned about private diesel vehicles

diesel issue is very complicated. vehicles with diesel engine also include pickups and vans. and before pickup and van are being domesticated, they are actually only used for works, so they always come with permit and bdm btm. so maybe if they return to the old ways by only allow registrations for commercial use pick ups, the diesel subsidy for private vehicle owners can be sorted more easily.

Iranian crude oil has been transferred to a ship in the Strait of Malacca, a critical waterway for global oil trade. According to reports, a tanker of Iranian fuel oil was spotted sitting offshore Malaysia, awaiting transfer to another vessel. This development comes as the US has urged local governments to comply with oil trading restrictions on Iran.
The Strait of Malacca is a key chokepoint for oil trade, with over 90% of crude oil volumes flowing through the South China Sea in 2016 transiting this route. A significant amount of crude oil also passes through the strait on its way to Singapore and the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, where it is refined before being transported to other markets.
It is worth noting that there have been reports of a “shadow” fleet of tankers carrying oil from sanctioned countries, including Iran, Russia, and Venezuela, transferring cargoes in the Singapore Strait to avoid detection. This has raised concerns about the risk of oil spills and accidents as hundreds of extra ships, some without insurance cover, join the opaque parallel trade.

Please get all stake holders input and consensus before start implement policy . Oil company, F&B and logistics or whatever entity that can influence inflation should be involved in implementation. That’s how Singapore do things .

I suggest the government to enforce stricter rule to curb smuggling of petrol and diesel immediately eg: using mykad to purchase fuel and so on
Why we have to subsidize neighbouring country
I don’t fault the Anti Smuggling Agency as the smuggler more and more creative smuggle out our subsidize fuel
