Great Aerial Game as well as Recovery

Sora has excellent aerial abilities, with his 3-hit aerial combos allowing you to easily rack up damage on an opponent. Additionally, his strong recovery gives him tons of potential for edge guarding, while allowing him to safely make it back to the stage. With several safe moves to pressure opponents with, he is a fairly easy character for less advanced players to pick up.

Sora Moveset Explanation

Jab

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (6)
Sora's jab is a a 3-hit combo that can be used as a quick get-off me tool to send opponents away with the Keyblade. Press the A button three times (or hold it) to get the combo. Stopping at the second hit won't launch the opponent.

Tilts and Dash Attack

Dash Attack

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (7)

A quick burst option where Sora slides forward with one foot first.

Forward Tilt

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (8)
Sora's forward is another 3-hit combo with the keyblade that deals more damage and knockback than the jab, at the cost of having a slower startup. Stopping at the second hit won't launch the opponent.

Up Tilt

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (9)

Sora's up tilt is a move where he swirls the Keyblade above his head, and can be used as an anti-air. It will also hit opponents directly in front of Sora.

Down Tilt

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (10)

Sora's down tilt is a downward swipe that bounces opponents upward, and will be useful as a combo starter.

Aerials

Netural Air

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (11)

Neutral air is a move where Sora swings the keyblade around his body. Pressing the A button multiple times (or holding it) will allow for a 3-Hit combo.

Forward Air

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (12)

Sora's forward air is similar to his forward tilt in the fact that inputting the move in succession will allow for a three hit combo. The first hit swings in front of Sora, chaining into the next two hits, with the last one dealing great knockback, making it powerful for edgeguarding or KOing opponents.

Up Air

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (13)

Sora's up air is a swing above him, which goes in a wide arc. The move's decent range means that it will be good for juggling opponents above you, or perhaps even as a combo finisher.

Back Air

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (14)

Sora's back air is a simple swing behind him that has good power and knockback, and will likely be useful as a KO move.

Down Air (Hurricane Blast)

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (15)

Sora's down air is a powerful move where he spins in circles and comes dropping down to the ground.

Smashes

Forward Smash

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (16)

Sora's forward smash is a rather standard smash attack where he swings the Keyblade forward once at the opponent in front of him. It has a rather long hitbox, making it easy to land on approaching opponents.

Up Smash

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (17)

Sora's up smash sends the keyblade straight upward with a flash. It has a sweetspot in the middle, which will deal more damage and knockback.

Down Smash

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (18)

Sora's down smash is a move where Sora hops up and slams the keyblade down. Since it shifts Sora's hurtbox upward for a brief moment, it can actually allow him to dodge low hitting moves such Ganondorf's down tilt. The move also sends out shockwaves, allowing you to hit opponents even if the Keyblade didn't touch them directly.

Specials

Neutral Special - Magic

Sora's neutral special will automatically cycle between three different spells in order - Firaga, Thundaga, Blizzaga, with the next spell showing up above Sora's damage. The moves will cycle on their own each time one is used.

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (19)
Firaga sends a fireball straight ahead of Sora. Repeatedly pressing B in succession will allow you to continuously cast it without changing spells.

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (20)

Thundaga casts three bolts of lightning down from above sky ahead of Sora. If the first hit lands, it will combo into the other two. It also has smaller range in the air than it does when used on the ground.

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (21)

Lastly, Blizzaga will temporarily freeze an opponent, although it has a rather short range. Freezing an opponent leaves them open for another attack.

Forward Special - Sonic Blade

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (22)

Sora's forward special is a move that will launch forward toward an opponent in the air. Similar to Pikachu or Greninja's up specials, the move can be used three times in a row in any direction by repeatedly pressing the special button and holding a direction, making it very good for recovering. Since it is hard to punish on shields, it is also a good approach tool and burst option.

Up Special - Aerial Sweep

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (23)

Sora's up special sends him swirling upward, in a similar manner to Link's up special. It is useful as a combo finisher and a recovery tool. After it ends, Sora can also use his forward special to continue moving in the air.

Down Special - Counterattack

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (24)

A basic counter move, with the added benefit of allowing Sora to deflect projectiles to his backside. When Sora counters a move up close, the oppontent who hit him will have their attack interrupted before being hit back. This move will only work for countering opponents in front of Sora.

Grab and Throws

Grab

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (25)
Sora has a basic non-tether grab where he lunges forward and grabs with his hand.

Forward Throw

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (26)
A standard throw forward, mainly used for putting an opponent offstage or gaining stage control.

Back Throw

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (27)
Similar to Mario, Sora spins around and chucks the opponent behind him. It has decent knockback, and looks like it could potentially be a kill throw at higher percents.

Up Throw

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (28)
Sora throws an opponent straight upward, which could be useful against characters with poor disadvantage, although it seems like it will throw them too high for true follow ups.

Down Throw

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (29)
Bounces the opponent lightly, and will likely lead to several aerial follow ups, making it the go-to throw option at lower percents.

Final Smash

Sora Guide: Matchup Chart and Combos | Super Smash Bros Ultimate|Game8 (30)

Sora's final smash is a move called Sealing the Keyhole. As the name implies, it seals opponents a keyhole before dealing heavy damage to them.
