Rainfield Marketing Group, Inc. of Vernon, California is recalling all cartons in its 150g packages of Enoki Mushroom (Product of Korea) as it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The recalled products were distributed to CA, MD and TX through product distributors or wholesalers in retail stores nationwide.

The Enoki comes in a 150g, clear and orange plastic package with the description “Enoki Mushroom” in English and labeled “Product of Korea” as well as “Must be sufficiently cooked for a minimum of 3 to 10 minutes at 70 ° C, DO NOT CONSUME RAW. ”On the left rear of the package there is the UPC code 085412004020 and below Distributed by Rainfield Marketing Group, to the right a Nutrition Facts list.

Symptoms of listeria may include fever, muscle pain, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and seizures. People facing these problems should seek immediate medical attention. This bacteria can be completely destroyed and the risk of infection can be eliminated by cooking food thoroughly at temperatures of 165 ° F (73.8 ° C).

Mushrooms are mushrooms, which means that they are neither vegetables nor fruits. Consumers should never eat raw mushrooms. All surfaces, utensils or containers used to prepare mushrooms should be kept separate from other foods to avoid cross contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Enoki Organic 200g Mushroom has been distributed nationwide from California and reached consumers through retail stores and other product wholesalers.
