What's the difference between a Whopper and a king burger? ›

Burger King Big King has two flame-broiled beef patties and tangy King Sauce; the Whopper has one huge patty and a traditional burger flavor.

The Impossible Whopper patty is 0% beef. It is made without any ingredients from animal sources but is still cooked on the same broiler that makes the beef Whopper patties. If you would like a non-broiler version of the Impossible Whopper, then our team members will microwave the patty and remove mayo from the build.

The Whopper is the signature hamburger and an associated product line sold by the international fast food restaurant chain Burger King and its Australian franchise Hungry Jack's. Introduced in 1957, the hamburger has undergone several reformulations, including changes to portion size and bread used.

In terms of nutrition, the Impossible Whopper has a similar amount of protein to the regular Whopper but less fat, slightly less saturated fat, slightly fewer calories, and much less cholesterol; it also has slightly more sodium.

The Whopper is as 'Murican as it gets: flame-grilled beef, American cheese, tomato, onion, iceberg lettuce, and dill pickle, a dollop of mayo, a squirt of ketchup, and a sesame seed bun.

Activists have called for a global boycott of Burger King over Israel outlets also providing free food and drinks to the Israeli military. Burger King stores have also found themselves the target of attacks fueled by anti-Israel anger.

U.S. chain Burger King has not announced it is shutting down operations, despite social media posts speculating over the brand's fate in April 2024.

Burger King was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, as Insta-Burger King by Keith J. Kramer and his wife's uncle, Matthew Burns. Their first stores were centered around a piece of equipment known as the Insta-Broiler, which was very effective at cooking burgers.

When Jack Cowin, an Australian businessman, went to open the chain's first franchise Down Under in 1971, there was already a local restaurant there called Burger King that had the name trademarked. To avoid any confusion, he went with the name Hungry Jack's, most likely inspired by his own namesake.

While both burgers feature 4-ounce patties, the Whopper definitely appears much larger than the Quarter Pounder. Part of the reason for this is the number of toppings — the lettuce and tomato add some height to the Whopper. The bun of Burger King's offering is also noticeably larger than the Quarter Pounder's.
